{ William Dunlap }

Born January 21, 1944 in Webster County, Mississippi, sculptor William Dunlap maintains studios in McLean, Virginia and New York City.  For eighteen years, Dunlap has served as visual arts commentator on Public Television's Emmy Award-winning Around Town, and his writings on art have appeared in ArtNews and The Washington Post among others. He collaborated with his fellow Mississippi native, the late Willie Morris, on Homecomings, a collection of essays and images.   This fall, the University Press of Mississippi will publish a comprehensive monograph on his work. Dunlap's artwork hangs in numerous museums and collections across the country, including New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and Washington's Corcoran Gallery of Art where his fourteen paneled, one-hundred and twelve feet long cycle of paintings, Panorama of the American Landscape, opened in the Rotunda Gallery in 1985.  He has received many awards and fellowships which include The Danforth Award in the Visual Arts, The Rockefeller Foundation International Fellowship, a grant from The Warhol Foundation, and a residency in Bangkok, Thailand as a Lila Wallace/Reader's Digest International Artists Fellow.  He and his wife, artist/writer Linda Burgess, and their daughter divide their time between Virginia, Mississippi, and Florida.
