Stephen G. Breyer was born in San Francisco in 1938. Breyer received his
a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Stanford University, a Bachelor of Arts from Magdalen College at the University of Oxford as a Marshall Scholar, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Harvard Law School. In addition to his legal career, Breyer taught at Harvard Law, as an expert on administrative law, from 1967 to 1994. During this time, Breyer served as a member of the United States Sentencing Commission, the Judicial Conference of the United States, and as Chief Judge on the United States First Circuit Court of Appeals. After a nomination from Bill Clinton in 1994, Breyer took a seat on the United States Supreme Court.
