Muraro, Michelangelo. Venetian Villas. Rizolli, NY (1987). Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket. Some shelfwear to jacket. Still very nice.
Muraro, formerly director of the Soprintendenza ai Monumenti di Venezia, drew international attention to the Venetian villa through exhibits in the 1950s. With over 400 lavish color photographs by Martin, Venetian Villas continues that picture-and-caption approach. In introductory chapters, Muraro reviews the cultural and economic factors that fostered the building of villas on the Venetian-controlled mainland in the 16th century. The remainder of the hefty volume is a chronologically arranged, pictorial tour of 80 spectacular residences.

Yamasaki, Minoru. A Life In Architecture.
Art Media Resources, NY (1979). Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket.
Yamasaki is one of the world’s outstanding architects. Perhaps most famous for his unique and controversial World Trade Center of New York City, his work runs the gamut of architecture, from airports and synagogues to banks and university buildings. Yamasaki has developed a style all his own, one marked by clean lines, warm textures, attention to detail, and, above all a concern that buildings, no matter how large they may be, never overpower the people who are in and around them. The purpose of architecture, according to Yamasaki, is “to create an atmosphere in which man can live, work, and enjoy.”
In this fascinating autobiography, Yamasaki describes his life, from his birth in Seattle through his rise in architectire to his international recognition as a leading architect. Discussing in detail his philosophy of and approach to his profession, then, with 116 photographs (90 in full color), 27 plans and diagrams, and explanatory texts, describes 29 of the over 150 projects he has designed. Yamasaki relates in his own words the problems and challenges he faced with individual structures, and the amount of success he has had in meeting these.
