The First Annual Idaho Beard and Moustache Championships

Mike Ames (right), author of the book and organizer of the Ketchum event interviews contestant Darren Sutherland of iconoclast books.  The day featured twenty bearded contestants in three categories.  Both men and women, and all ages were represented.

Bad Bob Walker, bike racer, skier and first-time beard competitor, scouts the competition, while another young hopeful looks on.  For an idea of the level of competition, Bob took second-place in the sideburns category

A quick look at the competition in the moustache category.  The judges were unclear as to how Tony Mt. Ego (far right) and the three suspiciously young contestants in the front row would fair in the International event coming this September to Berlin.

April 2005 saw the publication of the first ever book on the World Beard and Moustache Championships.  Ketchum local writer and impressario Mike Ames (seen left) combines photographs of the competitors in each category, along with explanations, results, and some brief history of the event.  It is a witty and tasteful presentation in the format of a petit art book.  Pick up a copy here and see what its all about.
