Leslie Patricelli, acclaimed artist and children's book author, will be joining us at Iconoclast Books for this summer's final Art Walk. Paintings from her best-selling books are currently hanging in Iconoclast's Ketchum store and they, along with the artist herself, will be the toast of the evening.

Iconoclast Books looks forward to welcoming California author Jack L. Parker for a reading and book signing event for his latest book, Tibetan Adventure on Friday, August 10th at 7:00 pm at our Ketchum store. The event is free and open to the public.

Two kidnappings, a faked death, a mythical yeti, a powerful secret formula, and a hidden culture deep in an exotic land all come together in the intricate plot of Tibetan Adventure. When Jeff Thornton's parents disappear, he learns they have been kidnapped by a Chinese army colonel who needs their talents as research scientists. After a Tibetan Khamban named Dorje tells Jeff his parents are being held in an abandoned monastery in Tibet, Jeff sets of with Dorje on a mission to free them and the dangerous journey begins.

Iconoclast Books will welcome returning author Richard D. Jackson who will be in town to promote his latest book, On the Edge. A compilation of his wilderness adventures, currently under consideration as official reading for the wilderness program Outward Bound. After talking a bit about the adventures his book chronicles, some of which take place here in Idaho, Mr. Jackson will be happy to take questions and sign books.

Part memoir, part travelogue On the Edge is filled with Jackson’s stories from more than seventy expeditions undertaken over the course of twenty years by a core group of risk-takers and adrenaline junkies. Having traversed such fascinating areas as the Everglades, Okefenokee Swamp, Appalachian Trail, Joshua Tree Desert, and of course many parts of Idaho’s own wilderness, the narrative is interwoven with the varied natural and geological histories of these places along with field-craft tips, survival techniques, tales of his own military combat experiences and much, much more.

Boise author Carol Heimbuch has just self-published an eco-adventure children’s book, Twilight Tracks: A Wilderness Mystery Adventure, with two very special co-authors, her grandchildren.

The story is about kids at an Idaho ranch camp where a mysterious salmon poisoning occurs. This tale of adventure in the Sawtooth wilderness, which also contains up-to-date information regarding salmon and their life cycle, should be informational and insightful for everyone in the family. Carol and her co-authors will be there to sign and talk about the book.

In conjunction with Turn Off Your Tv Week, run by the TV-Turboff Network Iconoclast Books is holding our 2nd Annual Turn Off Your TV Art & Writing Contest.

All participants must turn off your television, between  April 23rd through the 29th, and instead of TV: Get Real!  Get out there and DO something!  Hike, play a board game, have a great conversation,go for a bike ride, Volunteer, call a long lost friend, READ A GREAT BOOK!

We're sending out the month with a bang with a Local Double Author Event!

    First we have Michael A. Fitzgerald with his book Radiant Days.  Radiant days is a "skillfully written debut about Anthony a young man easily seduced into helping a beautiful Hungarian girl Gisela search for her lost son.  Anthony quickly realizes that Gisela's motives may not be entirely honest, and we must watch Anthony search for comprehension.

      Secondly we have Lance Olsen and his new novel, Anxious Pleasures: A Novel After Kafka.  This novel retells Kafka's famed Metamorphosis this time time from the point of view of the supporting cast.  Publisher's Weekly calls this novel "A cerebral treat unto itself and a fine companion to kafka's original."

Both authors will be joining us for a Reading and Signing

Darfur Week

The Sun Valley Center for the Arts and the Wood River Jewish Community join together with Global Grassroots to present a week-long special project focusing on the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.  Three different programs will provide opportunities for education and participation:

Please join us in celebrating the Winners of the Wood River Land Trust’s 3rd Annual “Heart of the Valley” Writing and Photography Contest.

What or who do you think represents the heart of the Wood River Valley?  WRLT asked valley residents to answer that question for this year's Heart of the Valley Contest and were overwhelmed with the number of responses.  Whether it's spending an evening on the river with a stranger, the generosity of valley residents, or a hike on your favorite trail, we received a wide range of photographs and writings representing the Valley's many great people and places.

There were 45 written submissions that resulted in three winners and three honorable mentions.These 6 will be doing a reading and socializing.

NexStage Theater Presents: Wild Fire: A Century of Failed Fire with George Wuerthner

George Wuerthner former forest Firefighter has compiled a book filled with his photos and essays about the ecological impact of fires and human's interferance.  George spent years of his life fighting fires and "protecting" the enviornment only to learn that his impact was actually negative, this book compiles essays on ways that mankind can live more harmoniously with fires and understand their natural patterns.

As Pamela Tucker tells it, she went through three lifetimes in a year. The beginning of 2002 found her balanced, contented and nestled within her thirty-four year marriage. Before the close of the same year she lost her husband, came precariously close to losing herself, and was married to Dick Tucker. It is this story of grief and unexpected profound love that led to the writing of Tender Waters.

Danny Langdon will be reading from and signing copies of his book My Mother Can Beat Up Your Father.  The book centers on being raised in Hailey by his widowed mother, who took over the family scrap metal business, while simultaneously raising 9 children. She was also active in the community and one the Idaho Mother of the Year Award, and came in second Nationwide.

Book Clubs Converge
provides an opportunity for local book clubs to join in a discussion of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. Not only do you have the opportunity to read Betrayal and participate in the discussion, you have the opportunity to hear one of three live readings of this fabulous and timeless play prior to Book Clubs Converge.
