Welcome To Our Sun Valley Bookstore and Cafe!

Welcome to Iconoclast Books & Cafe - New, Used, Rare and VERY Independent!  Our beautiful setting in over 3000 square feet filled with books and gifts will encourage your intellectual curiosity. We pride ourselves on being unique and going beyond the bestseller selection.  We offer a fabulous Hemingway and Idaho History selection, Sun Valley Writers' Conference titles, The Sun Valley Center for the Arts and The Cabin's event selections as well as our next door neighbor, The Community Library.  Come in for book club recommendations, magazines, gifts, stationery, candles, educational games & toys, and more.  Our iconoclastic booksellers will make your visit worth leaving home for!

We specialize in unique cards, gifts, candles, jewelry and host the area's largest children's section - from baby gifts & board books to a phenomenal young adult selection, with everything in between. We host author events, poetry slams, music events, open mic nights, book club discussions and educational events. We support our schools and non-profit organizations and love to engage with other indies.

Our cafe features locally roasted Grace Organics coffee, local organic dairy, house made chai, organic teas, smoothies, fresh baked goodies, bagels, home made soup, quiche, paninis and salads. We are a Mom and Pop store with the flare of a big city - The New York Times says this is THE place to hang when you're in Sun Valley!

Hello and welcome to summer!

Thanks to nearly 400 donors and to the hundreds more who spread the word via social media and email blasts, we exceeded our initial fundraising goal of $85,000! Many many thanks, everyone!!! We now have the breathing room to focus on what we need to do next – implement our business plan for long-term success, which includes accelerating repayment of our outstanding business improvement and disaster relief loans and other debts. These include:

  • SBA disaster relief loan for the 2007 Castle Rock fires.
  • Indebtedness to landlord related to the 2009 seizing of our bank.
  • Taxes, which my husband Gary fell behind on prior to his death.

We are in good standing with these debts but they inhibit us from moving forward, and moving forward for Iconoclast means:

  • Restructuring the corporation to allow partner investment, making Iconoclast a truly community-owned bookstore. Significant obligations must be met before we can do this.
  • Continuing to support our community’s collective interests as a gathering place and hub for readers, authors, musicians, poets, actors, children and teens.
  • Improving the bookstore with upgrades to the cafe and retail spaces.
  • Increasing our work with non-profits, including schools, libraries and arts organizations.
  • Realizing our long-held ambition to facilitate and host Writers/Artists in Residence Programs.

This is our vision for Iconoclast. We couldn’t have gotten to this point without your help and support, and we are deeply grateful for the love our community has given back to us.

We want to keep you apprised of our progress going forward. You can sign on to our mailing list here.

You can review the details of our successful Indiegogo campaign here.

Our heartfelt thanks again, to all of you. The theme of our fundraising campaign came from Neil Gaiman, who said a town just isn’t a town without a bookstore. But it's equally true that a bookstore can’t be a bookstore without a town. We are lucky to have you.
